THE nominations for the BAFTA Cymru Awards have been announced, honouring excellence and celebrating talent across film and television in Wales.

Hit docu-series Welcome to Wrexham has received its first ever BAFTA nomination in the Factual Series category, alongside Siwrna Scandi Chris, Slammed: The Eighties and Y Frwydr: Stori Anabledd.

The hit docu-series has become an international success showcasing the highs and lows of north Wales football town 'Wrexham AFC', taken over by co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020.

It has previously been nominated 12-times for an Emmy, including five wins in Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Picture Editing for Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Sound Mixing.

The BAFTA Cymru Awards will be held in Newport at the ICCW on Sunday, October 20 with 21 categories spanning craft, performance and production.

The performance categories feature four first-time BAFTA Cymru nominees including, Aimee-Ffion Edwards for Dreamland Alexandra Roach for Men Up, Ncuti Gatwa for Doctor Who and Philip Glenister for Steeltown Murders.

Further first-time nominees include Jess Howe, nominated in Director Factual for Strike! The Women Who Fought Back, Megan Gallagher nominated in Writer for Wolf, Matthew Barry nominated in Writer for Men Up and Stifyn Parry, nominated in Presenter for Paid â Dweud Hoyw.

Award presenters representing the best of the sector’s creative talent will grace the red carpet and announce the winners on the night.
