A MAN assaulted his ex-fiancée in a kebab shop after their wedding was cancelled, a court heard.

Craig Mack, of the A539 in Ruabon, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old admitted one offence of harassment, two of assault and one of criminal damage.

Prosecutor Rachel Drew told the court the matters were domestic in nature, as the victim in three of the offences (assault, harassment and damage) was Mack's ex-partner Angela Goodwin, and the victim of the second assault was her sister Samantha Jones.

On August 24, Ms Goodwin and her sister went to a kebab shop in Cefn Mawr.

The defendant "chased" Ms Goodwin's car, shouting and swearing, and when they arrived at the takeaway he approached before punching and kicking her car.

Ms Goodwin videoed the defendant's behaviour and Ms Drew said he responded by punching her to the back of the head.

He then 'punched' Ms Jones to the chest and arm, Ms Drew said.

When interviewed by police, Mack gave a different basis for the events - in that it had been a "chance meeting" with Ms Goodwin.

He accepted entirely that he "elbowed and kicked" her car and claimed he'd attempted to grab her phone when he saw her filming, which was followed up by him 'pushing her away' rather than punching her.

Mack said he then "palmed" his ex-partner's sister away as well.

The harassment began the day after the kebab shop assaults, taking place between August 25 and September 2.

It involved him sending a Facebook post, approaching Ms Goodwin's brother and asking him to pass on a message to her, sending a message to her workplace, 'watching' her father, attending outside her home and calling her.

Bethan Jones, defending, asked the court to consider standing the hearing down to seek the input of the probation service.

She said: "In a nutshell, the weekend this all happened, they were due to get married and for reasons I won't air in open court, the wedding was cancelled.

"It was massively fuelled by emotion on both sides.

"Mr Mack went into the cells overnight where his mental health deteriorated massively.

"He came out the next day and called her (Ms Goodwin), sent the Facebook messages, the texts - they were not abusive or threatening.

"He tells her how much he loves her and how sorry he is for the assault. He had no business doing that, but that was his train of thought.

"His mental health has deteriorated further."

The Magistrates agreed to adjourn sentencing until October 9 in order for a full probation report to be produced.

Ms Jones asked the court to confirm whether her client's version of events was accepted, or whether it would have to be tested by way of a Newton hearing.

The Magistrates confirmed they were satisfied that the sentencing should take place on the defence's version of the events.

Mack was granted conditional bail with conditions not to contact either of the victims.
