WREXHAM AFC has paid tribute to a 100-year-old superfan of the club on what is the day of his funeral.

Respects have been paid today (September 4) to Arthur Massey, who sadly died on August 8.

Fans of the club will recognise him for featuring in the docuseries 'Welcome to Wrexham' alongside daughters Jacqui Valentine and Julie Birrell.

In March of this year, Mr Massey was presented with a framed shirt with the number '100' on by Wrexham AFC to celebrate his 100th birthday and his loyalty to the club.

As well as being a loyal Wrexham fan, Mr Massey had been a dedicated volunteer for the Royal British Legion's annual poppy appeal.

He was also a distinguished Second World War veteran, serving as a sapper in the Burma Campaign in South East Asia.

He also had the opportunity of meeting His Majesty the King, during his visit to Wrexham in December, 2022.

Today, a funeral service was held to celebrate the life of Mr Massey.

A service and committal took place at Pentrebychan Crematorium from 11.15am.

Fans of the club and Wrexham residents also lined up to pay their respects as the funeral car passed and briefly stopped outside the Turf and the STok Cae Ras to say their final goodbyes.

A statement from Wrexham AFC read: "We paid tribute to Arthur Massey this morning, a devoted Wrexham AFC supporter, who passed away recently at the age of 100.

"Thank you for all your loyal support over the years, Arthur - you'll always be a Red."

Mr Massey had spent over 90 years of his life following his beloved Wrexham AFC.

And his grandson Lee even played for the club back in the early 1990's - a time he previously called his 'proudest moment' following the club.
