LAST month, the chancellor announced that winter fuel payments would now only be available to those older people who receive certain means tested benefits.

Wrexham Council is highlighting to residents that all of those on pension credit, will continue to receive the annual payments.

However, it’s thought that some people eligible for pension credit, don’t claim it.

If you were born before 23 September, 1958 you could get either £200 or £300 to help you pay your heating bills for winter 2024 to 2025. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

You may be eligible if you or your partner get certain benefits. If you are eligible, you’ll normally get the Winter Fuel Payment automatically.

If you are over the state pension age, you may be entitled to pension credit, which will mean you are able to continue claiming the winter fuel payment. To find out if you are eligible have a look at the GOV.UK pension credit page.
