CILCAIN Show made a return to the Flintshire village this week, with organisers saying they believe it to have been their “busiest ever” event.

Held on Bank Holiday Monday (August 26), the show typically attracts more than 3,000 visitors, with a range of competitions, entertainment and stalls for people to enjoy.

This year, proceeds from the show were donated to The DPJ Foundation, a mental health charity support those in the agricultural sector.

There were competitions including in art and craft, fancy dress and flowers, as well as mountain and junior fell races and an auction for people to enter.

The Cilcain Mountain Race is the oldest fell race in Wales, having first been run in 1960, and is approximately 4.5 miles in length, culminating at the 1,820ft summit Moel Famau, which sits above the village of Cilcain.

A prize was also awarded to the first person to complete the race while wearing fancy dress.

In addition, there were performances from the Buckley Cheerleaders, Mr Magico Punch and Judy, Mersey Morris Performers, James the Jester, and the BT Big Band

Andy Hughes, chair of the show, said: “The show went well; we believe it was our busiest ever.

“The weather stayed nice, and everyone seemed to have a good time.”
