A SECTION of main road to Wrexham Maelor Hospital is set for a three-month one-way closure as major gas works take place.

Wales & West Utilities will shortly begin work to upgrade gas pipes in the Croesnewydd Road area of Wrexham.

The work will begin on September 2 and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will finish during November. The company said the work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Wrexham Council, and it has been agreed that a one-way road closure will be in place on Croesnewydd Road.

This will be in place for the duration of the works and will start from the roundabout at Rhyd Broughton Lane to Ty Powys Nurses Home - in a north-westerly direction.

Traffic is permitted to travel in a south-easterly direction, in line with the temporary one-way system.

A local diversion route will be clearly signposted and will take motorists along Bradley Road, Regent Street, Mold Road, Berse Road and Rhyd Brougton Lane.

Croesnewydd Road will be opened in sections to allow residents access.

Wales & West Utilities' Adam Smith is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Wrexham. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
