A FLINTSHIRE cricket club has received an £18,000 grant to help boost its facilities.

Hawarden Park CC has received funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The funding is for ongoing work on its toilets and effluent treatment system - as the club continues to develop its ground on Moor Lane.

A spokesperson for the club said: "We received £18,823.60 awarded by Cadwyn Clwyd and FLVC (Flintshire Local Voluntary Council) on behalf of the Flintshire Shared prosperity fund.

"This award has enabled the club to take another big step forward in the development of our facilities at our Moor Lane ground.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to continue the developments of this club and thank everyone for their support."

The club received planning permission in 2021 for a new pavilion at the ground - with fundraising efforts taking place since towards the cost of building it.

The club is already a major community hub, with more than 100 children attending sessions there on a Friday night in the summer months.

Nearby primary schools hold their sports days on the ground, and the club’s English Cricket Board All Stars and Dynamos initiatives for children are always oversubscribed.

There are four senior teams – including the only hard ball cricket women’s team in North Wales - and four junior teams from under 9 to under 15.
