A RUNNING group in Wrexham has donated toys to the Maelor Hospital for young patients.
The Erddig Muddy Trainers is a local beginner’s running group and after one of the group's leaders visited the paediatric A&E department at the Maelor, felt there was a "desperate need" for more toys.
The group then organised a fun run at Chirk Castle, in which they raised a total of £350.
They then approached Smyths toy store in Island Green in a bid to secure some toys for the hospital.
Smyths then matched the donation, which led to £700 worth of new toys being delivered to the Maelor Hospital on Wednesday (August 21).
Janet McHugh, from the Erddig Muddy Trainers said: "We held a fun run at Chirk Castle and added money from the kind donations of our group plus we received a donation from Active8 Gym in Bradley.
"We raised £350 altogether and approached Smyths Toys at Island Green in Wrexham who very generously offered to match our fundraising total.
"The staff at the paediatric A&E were thrilled and a group of us met to choose and buy the toys with the help of staff in the toy shop.
