A FLINTSHIRE resident has expressed concern in relation to ongoing gas maintenance works on a main road in Saltney.
The B5129 Saltney Ferry Overbridge has been closed for a four-week period to allow Cadent Gas to complete essential gas mains works.
Due to the closure, a resident has voiced their frustration that the community situated on Ewart Street and North Street have been isolated.
Living on Ewart Street, the resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, has said: "I want to stress how frustrated and worried most residents are on Ewart Street and North Street. The bridge going over linking us to Saltney has been closed which means massive diversions to get to local amenities.
"It's not so bad if people have cars but for the disabled and those who use taxis it's going to double, almost triple, taxi fares in some cases and apparently this closure is until September.
"This has isolated our community and we have not received a letter or any communication regarding this."
In response, a Flintshire County Council spokesperson said: "Cadent Gas have closed the B5129 Saltney Ferry Overbridge to undertake essential gas mains works. To carry out these works safely, the road has been closed to traffic.
"Pedestrian access will be maintained for the duration of the road closure. The works are expected to take 4 weeks to complete.
"Cadent Gas have confirmed that a further community engagement exercise will take place with the residents of Ewart Street and North Street."

A spokesperson for Cadent said: “These works are part of a major investment in our North West Network by Cadent which is vital in ensuring that we keep gas flowing to homes in Flintshire and beyond for generations to come. The new pipes that we are installing will also allow us to introduce more environmentally friendly gases into our Network in the future.
“With gas pipes being decades old, it is essential that we replace them to futureproof our network and minimise the amount of repair work that we have to do in the area over the coming years. Keeping the people of Flintshire warm in their homes is our number one priority.
“We understand the frustrations that the road closure will cause to road users and residents and we apologise for this. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable as we seek to ensure that our engineers are able to carry out the works as safely and as swiftly as possible. We’d urge everybody to allow a little bit more time for their journeys throughout the period of the works and would like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding. We will of course continue to work with the local community in an attempt to minimise disruption."
The closure came into effect on Monday, August 12 and is estimated to reopen mid-September.
