CASTELL Alun High School say they are "overjoyed" with its exam results haul this year.

Students from the school in Hope picked up their A-Level results on Thursday with hopes of getting into their university or job of choice.

86% of all Castell Alun A level grades came between A*– C. Well over half of grades awarded at A Level were at A* - B and a quarter of all grades were awarded at A* - A.

The overall pass rate at Castell Alun was an "amazing" 100% with no students failing any subject qualification at all and indeed 95% of all students achieving three A*-E grades also.

The school proudly announced the successes of every student in their cohort. At the very pinnacle of academic performance was Matthew Smith. Matthew, who achieved an A* in Maths one year earlier, added additional A*s in Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science, giving him a total of 4 A* at A level.

He was understandably thrilled with his performance and will now proceed to read Maths at Cambridge or Warwick University. Matthew actually scored the maximum possible in both his Maths and Further Maths papers, a tally which clearly places him at the very top of all students in the nation.

Eloise Winkworth hauled in a whopping 3A* and 1 A grade and will now go on to Cardiff University to read Psychology.

Reuben Mortlock scooped 1 A* and 3 A grades in order to be able to accept his offer from Lancaster to read Physics, and Ben Griffiths, a genuine entrepreneur, also with 1 A* and 3 A grades, has decided to build further on the greatly successful business he has already established.

Harriet Wilson scored 1 A* and 2 A grades and is thrilled to go to York to read History and Daisy Fogerty also scored a most impressive 1 A* and 2 A grades and will now read Law in Liverpool. Katie Hall, Freddie Fletcher, Erin Cartwright and Ella Wilson all gained 3 A grades to be accepted onto courses at Edinburgh (Architectural Design), Cardiff (Medicine) Exeter (Neuroscience) and Stafford (Forensic Investigation) respectively.

Annabel Collis will follow her dreams and take up a golf scholarship in the USA with both her collection of A grades and indeed natural ability with the clubs. As well as seeking further success in the golfing world, Annabel will also study Economics at university in Florida.

Accepting rare unconditional offers from Salford and Cardiff Met were Will Lloyd-Jones and Danny Manoj, who now proceed to study Military History and Product Design respectively.

Furthermore, a number of Castell Alun students will now embark upon degree level apprenticeships as a direct result of their fine academic and practical performances. Amie Price has accepted her offer of a degree level apprenticeship to be undertaken through Morrisons, with Vlad Bucutea, Adam Clark and Jack Cole each now undertaking a degree level apprenticeship though Airbus.

Assistant Headteacher and Sixth Form Director, Mrs Sarah Edwards, commented: “In the context of the post COVID re-balancing of A level grades nationally, I simply could not be prouder of our students this year.

"I would like to pay testimony to our staff, who give so selflessly of themselves in order to ensure that our students are able to perform to the best of their ability year after year. We are thrilled that the entire cohort has taken the next steps to living their dreams through the education they have had with us, but we are actually just as happy that they have become engaging, rounded individuals, who will doubtless contribute really effectively to their local areas and, in many cases, nations.”

Headteacher, Mr Colin Ellis, said: “In these changing times, this is a tremendous achievement for everyone connected with Castell Alun High School. To see the delight on students’ and parents’ faces makes everything worthwhile and we really want to acknowledge sincerely also the significant contributions of our primary schools, who played a pivotal role in these accomplishments, and yet sometimes are forgotten in the melee of emotions. Our Sixth Form will continue to flourish and we are truly indebted to all parents and staff who have tirelessly supported these young people in achieving such great results.”
