Newborough National Nature Reserve and Forest on Anglesey is preparing for an influx of visitors in the coming weeks.

Visitors are being asked to plan ahead as they are expecting travel congestion in the area. They are asking visitors to respect the community and the environment and prepare for the car park to be full at busy times.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is implementing solutions with the Isle of Anglesey County Council to relieve possible congestion and potential disruption for residents.

Visitors are expected to peak during weekends and between 11am and 3pm when the weather is good.

The strategies will be in Newborough village, restricting access to the site's narrow access road, and give notice when the car park is full and give notice to other beaches.

Justin Hanson, NRW’s people & places team leader for North West Wales, said: "We are expecting to see a continuation of the high visitor numbers we are already experiencing at Newborough, especially at weekends and when the weather is fine."

He also said: "We also want to remind visitors that overnight stays are not allowed on NRW sites and there are a number of local campsites in the area."

The site's rural location coupled with the potential influx of vehicles navigating through the village can cause congestion often with the car park reaching maximum capacity shortly after doors are open.

To control this situation, Mr Hanson advised visitors to consider alternate timings or other beaches on Anglesey for their visit.

Visitors are urged to respect communities, dispose of their litter responsibly, avoid lighting fires, be responsible pet owners, and prevent any disturbance or damage.

NRW wardens are set to be on-site during the summer, providing advice and guidance.

The council's ambition is to collect insights from this trial to inform future plans to manage traffic and access to Newborough.
