A GRAVE at a Wrexham-based cemetery has been damaged following a 'shocking' act of vandalism.

Rhosllanerchrugog Community Council say that the incident took place at some point over the weekend (August 10-11) at the Rhos Cemetery.

The council shared a picture of the grave in question, which had been left in pieces, with rubbish strewn across it.

They said: "Very sad to see this act of vandalism on a grave in the cemetery over the weekend. Please report to the office if anyone has information about this."

Speaking to the Leader, a spokesperson for the council added that the incident had left the family of the person whose grave it is 'shocked and upset'.

Over the last few months, the council have also been dealing with other issues at the cemetery.

Staff have come across instances of fly-tipping, with items such as mattresses being left there.

Further concerns have also been raised about dog fouling, with the council even prepared to ban all dogs (except guide dogs) from the site to eradicate the problem.

During the latest incident of vandalism, Rhos Community Council say that the area around the damaged grave was also scattered with cans and smashed bottles.

The incident has been reported to North Wales Police who are investigating.

Paul Pemberton - a member of Rhos Community Council - slammed the damage done as 'despicable'.

He said: "This is despicable behaviour, why would anyone want to do this? It’s very sad for the family members."
