A MUCH-LOVED event on the Flintshire calendar is making a return after a few years break.

The 'Off Flint Scarecrow Competition' has delighted many down the years - even keeping residents entertained when the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns first struck.

Now, after a three-year break, the competition is set to return as residents are invited to once again get creative.

Previous entries into the event - which sees parents and children design their own scarecrows - have included Simon Cowell (Winner back in 2020!), the Minions, the Gingerbread man from Shrek and so much more.

Nathan Griffiths has teamed up with Kirsty Armitage to bring the competition back to life.

He said: "Flint is gearing up for the annual Scarecrow competition which normally gets family's and children working together to design a Scarecrow to enter the competition and to have a bit of fun."

TOP STORIES TODAY

Nathan says that the competition will run until August 30 and - as has become tradition in Flint - postbox toppers in the form of scarecrows will make an appearance too (below).

Residents are now encouraged to get involved before Judging takes place in the first week of September.

Cllr Mel Buckley, George and Dragon landlady Lynda Leigh and past Scarecrow winner Lisa Carroll will be this year's judges.

Nathan added: "There will once again be a trophy for the overall winner out of all categories, as well as medals for each category and vouchers and other prizes up for grabs.

"We also have a new category this year - best recycled materials Scarecrow and we are hoping to have a few entries there especially with councils pushing recycling."

Categories for this year's 'Off Flint Scarecrow Competition' are:

  • Best Recycled materials Scare
  • Best pub Scare
  • Best Scarecrow overall/impression.
