ONE OF Wrexham AFC's star chairmen has brilliantly defended the club against a social media troll.

The eyes of the world have been on the north Wales club since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over in 2021.

And back-to-back promotions and the highly-successful Welcome to Wrexham that followed have earned the club new fans, as well as having taken some of the most loyal ones along for the ride.

The Reds returned to EFL League One with a bang on Saturday (August 10) as they beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 at the STok Cae Ras.

But, it seems that the club can't please everyone, with many a social media critic wanting to jump on the negativity bandwagon wherever possible.

Over the weekend though, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob was having absolutely none of that.

CBS Sports released its schedule of EFL games that it will stream. And the biggest winner was Wrexham who will be shown nine times between now and September 30 (more than any of the other 71 EFL teams).

X (formerly Twitter) user @DonDickerson01 took the time out of their day to criticise that on the social media platform.

They said: "Told you so. Wrexham is the Dallas Cowboys on every damn week. I'll be rooting against them every week just cuz everyone else is so in love with them."

Rob hit back at the comment, saying: "Don, I understand your feelings on the Cowboys. And because you have such fantastic taste, I am personally inviting you to rethink your stance on Wrexham. Ryan and I are annoying for sure, but I think you’ll find the town quite wonderful :)"

@DonDickerson01 then responded by saying: "Id love to root for your team since I love both you and ryan reynolds. I know my dislike is less about @Wrexham_AFC and 100% about the media here in the USA who want to talk about just 1 team 24/7."

They added: "So while I don't HATE Wrexham as it's not their fault or yours I do find myself rooting against them because of the non stop love fest that our media has for them. Wrexham is 1 of 24 I'd just like a small amount of coverage for the other 23 clubs by the sports media."

As well as boosting the football club's reputation, Rob and Ryan have also done a lot for the Wrexham community itself since 2021.

The pair have regularly donated money to great causes and have helped put businesses like The Turf on the world map via the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.
