Rail enthusiasts are invited to make tracks and visit Chester Cathedral this month as a popular model railway attraction returns for a fourth year.
Making Tracks IV by Pete Waterman OBE and the Railnuts returns by popular demand.
It will be joined by a spectacular display titled Your Kaleidoscope – which comprises two works by British artist Liz West.
Hot on the heels of winning the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest portable model railway, Pete and the Railnuts set about creating an all-new installation for the cathedral, which represents Watford Junction on the West Coast Main Line.
Also back for 2024 is the opportunity for visitors to control the trains on the model railway themselves!
In addition, Chester Cathedral is proud to bring Liz West back to the city with Your Kaleidoscope, which features two of the artist’s works – Presence and Hymn to the Big Wheel.
People may recall West’s stunning Our Colour Reflection which occupied the Cathedral Chapter House in 2018.
Liz West is a British artist who graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2007, and her broad body of work encompasses wall-based artwork, sculpture, and site-specific installations.
She creates vivid environments that mix luminous colour and radiant light, provoking a heightened sensory awareness in the viewer through her works.
Making Tracks IV is open Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, and Saturday 10am-4pm (closed Sundays and Friday, August 16). Your Kaleidoscope is open Monday-Sunday, normal Cathedral hours.
