A MAN has been ordered to pay compensation after damaging a £900 pub TV with a glass.

Patrick Ward, of Englefield Avenue, in Connah's Quay, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.

The 22-year-old admitted one offence of criminal damage, the offence having happened in Shotton on April 1.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court that at around 1.50pm on the day in question, Ward was drinking at The Clwyd Pub with two males.

He was sat in front of a large television on the wall and as captured on CCTV standing up and throwing a glass - which made contact with the appliance and damaged it.

Ms Jackson told the court the pub's landlady was not able to have the TV repaired, and the cost of replacing it came to £943.

When Ward was interviewed, he confirmed he had been the one to damage the TV.

He was offered a chance to settle the compensation payment before the matter proceeded to court, but he did not.

Chris Clark, defending, told the court: "He realised when I spoke to him that in not paying the required amount, this has resulted in his character now being stained with a conviction and additional financial penalty.

"He accepts he as drinking on the day and in a moment of madness he threw the glass in frustration.

"It certainly wasn't his intention to damage the TV."

The court ordered Ward to pay £943 compensation, as well as £85 costs, a £16 victim surcharge and a £40 fine.
