THE "worst road in Wrexham" is set to be resurfaced after more than 1,000 people signed a petition calling for it to be fixed.
Plaid Cymru councilllor Annette Davies has said she is delighted that Wrexham Council is to resurface large parts of the Summerhill Road in Gwersyllt and Summerhill.
The announcement of works commencing later this month comes after Cllr Davies launched a petition calling for the resurfacing of the road.
Numerous patching's had made the road surface dangerous for road users and many signed the petition saying they now avoided the road because it was so uneven.
It led to the road being dubbed the "worst road in Wrexham", but that isn't set to be the case for much longer after the local authority confirmed that resurfacing work would start later this month.
Work is due to start on August 19 on the Summerhill Road at Little Mountain for five days and then for a week from September 7 by the Lex Football Club.
Cllr Davies, who represents the Gwersyllt West ward, said: "I've been calling for this work to be done for more than two years and, as recently as last month, Gwersyllt Community Council was told that there was no funding for a proper resurfacing job.
"That's why I launched the petition - to show the council how frustrated local residents and people accessing Pendine Park had become.

"The response - more than 1100 in just over a week - was astounding. So many people talked of near misses, damage to cars, danger to cyclists and motorcyclists that it was clear something had to be done.
"The news today is a huge relief for us all. I'm delighted there's been a change of heart.
"It is, however, very frustrating that we have to resort to this when its blindingly obvious that the road is dangerous. I hope the work, which is due to start on one stretch later this month, will make the road safe and usable again."
A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: "We are pleased that we have been able to include this road in this year’s work programme.”
