WREXHAM residents have set to embark on a 'Sleep Rough' challenge to raise awareness for homelessness and mental health.

Organised by 'Walk and Talk' founder Richy Harries, the event will take place on Wednesday, August 14 from 6pm until 6am.

The idea is to grasp a better understanding on how being homeless can impact mental health in order to offer appropriate advice and support.

The team will start at Waterworld car park before going around the city centre offering their support.

Richy said: "I'll be in Wrexham city centre with no food, phone, money or shelter - just a sleeping bag. We already have seven others signed up for the challenge, everyone is welcome to join.

"I've had a fantastic response so far. I really want to get a better understanding so that I can support the homelessness community and offer a judgement free space for them when they are struggling.

"I've been through hard times myself and I've overcome them. Let's raise as much awareness as possible."

Richy is known in the community for his 'Walk and Talk' events across Wrexham to support men's mental health.

The initiative launched this year has had an overwhelmingly positive response, with hundreds getting involved.

Richy also proudly hosted a free haircut night for men in Gwersyllt Barbershop on July 31, encouraging men to socialise, open up and simply connect with other people in a safe and judgement free space.
