A COUPLE from Flintshire have completed the 'Welsh 3000 Challenge' in aid of a Mayor's Fundraiser.

Lauren Jakeman and her fiancé Ste Broster completed the Welsh 3000’s on July 27 and 28 in aid of Lauren’s grandad, Mayor of Mold Councillor Brian Lloyd’s fundraising appeal.

Known as one of the toughest mountain challenges in the UK, the pair made it to the top of 15 mountains over 3,000ft in 24-hours without any form of transport.

Mayor of Mold and proud grandfather Cllr Lloyd confirmed all proceeds will go towards his community Mayoral appeal.

In total, the pair raised an incredible £540, smashing their initial £100 target. You can still donate here.

Lauren said: "Taking on the Welsh 3000s is my way of honoring my grandad's commitment as the mayor of Mold, by raising funds for the charities he's chosen this year and celebrating his dedication to our community.

"This was undoubtedly one of the hardest challenges we’ve ever faced. I absolutely hated our mountain leader Nathan at times, especially when every mountain was “just 10 minutes away,” which was the longest 10 minutes ever!

"However, he was fantastic, and I couldn’t fault him at all, nor his amazing brother who was at every pit stop with fuel for us. Thank you both, and thanks to our incredible team—we did it!

"During the challenge, we saw one sunset and two sunrises, which was incredible. However, being so tired, it was hard to fully appreciate the beauty of those moments.

"While it was a brilliant experience, I certainly won’t be doing it again! I have blisters upon blisters and I’m currently walking like I’m 90 years old.

"One highlight of the walk was that I managed to get down one of the mountains very fast—by falling headfirst and hitting every thorn bush on the way! Poor Ste had the pleasure of picking out the thorns with tweezers—what a day!"

The length of the challenge is approximately 30 miles, but the walks to the start point and down from the finish point can take it to over 30 miles in total making it extremely tough.

Lauren and Ste have smashed it, and all for an excellent cause close to their hearts.
