CONSTRUCTION work continues on Flintshire's new Lidl store with a December 2024 opening still in sight.
Replacing the former Somerfirled/Co-Op store in Connah's Quay, Lidl is moving from the Deeside Retail Park to occupy the building after almost a decade of being vacant.
The project is being overseen by Braithwaite Group. With Phase 1 involving the site set-up and demolition of the existing slab now complete, Phase 2 is focusing on the construction of the store.
Updated images have been shared to social media, showcasing the progress made with just over four-months left until completion.
The new store is expected to bring 40 new jobs to the area in "order to operate in the most efficient manner", including the 15 staff already located at Deeside Retail Park.
A Lidl spokesperson said: "We can confirm pro-construction of our new Lidl store in Connah’s Quay remains on track to open this winter.

"We look forward to bringing our affordable, quality produce to residents and will keep the local community updated on progress."
Project Manager Mark Wallis added: "All is good and we are progressing well and on programme. We are still on track to open December 5."
In the meantime, the carpark next to the library will remain open for residents. Remedial work by Braithwaite Group will also allow better access down Mill Lane and to the allotments.
