AN INQUEST has been held into the tragic death of a Wrexham man.

Paul Darren Morris, aged 56, was pronounced dead at his flat on Arenig Road, Wrexham on March 18 of this year.

At County Hall in Ruthin on Tuesday (July 30), an inquest was held into Mr Morris' death.

It heard that Mr Morris was found hanged in his flat by police officers on the evening of March 18, after his ex-partner had raised concerns for his safety.

In a statement read out to the coroner's court, his ex-partner, Christianne Halliwell, said that Mr Morris, described as a "kind and caring soul", had been struggling with amphetamine and benzodiazepine addiction for a number of years, after fracturing his skull in an accident.

Miss Halliwell said that his drug misuse had "spiralled out of control" since 2022, and that he had been taking "large amounts" of amphetamine.

After Mr Morris exchanged messages with Miss Halliwell whereby he made threats to harm himself, she attended his property the following day. However there was no answer and she could hear his phone ringing from inside and his dog barking.

Police were called to the property, forcing entry and sadly finding Mr Morris deceased inside. A pathologist’s cause of death was recorded as hanging.

John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, recorded a conclusion of suicide.
