A LIFELONG Wrexham fan is set to take on a 300 mile cycle challenge in memory of his late brother.

In September, David Vaughan and his colleague Chloe Priest will set off from St Clears in South-West Wales on a 320 mile cycle to Wallsend, just outside of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

69-year-old David, who lives in St Clears, currently works at a call centre based in the North East town of Wallsend.

On September 14, both David and Chloe will set off on their challenge, which the pair estimate will take around seven days.

They will travel through Camarthen, Llandovery, Llandrindod Wells and Oswestry before heading near Manchester, Huddersfield, Harrogate and Darlington before arriving at their destination.

David, who used to live in Coedpoeth and has supported Wrexham since an early age, will be raising funds for a charity close to home, the British Heart Foundation.

10 years ago, David's brother Malcolm passed away aged 55 following a heart attack

David said: "It is now coming up to 10 years since my brother Malcolm died suddenly with no warning, of a heart attack, at the age of 55.

"It was like any other Sunday morning, Malcolm got up first and about an hour or so later Jen his wife got up only to find him dead on the kitchen floor. He left a wife and three children devastated.

"With the 10th anniversary coming up I thought it was about time I did something in his memory and to raise awareness of heart disease. In addition there are a few of my friends who were also taken far to early or have serious heart problems. who I will be cycling for.

"I have supported Wrexham since my school days so obviously remember the famous teams of the 70s the depths of the last 15 years before things have looked up again now Rob and Ryan are at the helm.

"I only really took up cycling at the end of last year because I couldn't even play walking football because of my knees.

"Someone suggested I take up swimming or cycling and as I'm pretty hopeless at swimming it was cycling and so I bought a bike an pretty soon after started think of doing something to raise money."

In addition to David raising funds, his colleague Chloe will be fundraising in aid of the Air Ambulance and Diabetes UK.
