SEVERAL customers have spoken out after their shopping experience at Wrexham's Asda Superstore.

Due to a shortage of carrier bags earlier this week, customers say they were advised to purchase bin bags for £1.20 as an alternative to safely carry their items back home.

In addition, a shortage of staff left customers no choice but to use the self-scanning facilities, an impractical option for many doing a hefty weekly shop.

An anonymous shopper, outraged by the situation, has taken to social media following their shopping experience at the store on Holt Road.

Wanting to remain anonymous, the customer said: "Asda had zero tills open, and not one carrier bag in sight. Staff were offering bin bags by the tills, for £1.20.

"We did a weekly shop, which we had to scan ourselves and they wanted us to go back and buy bin bags. Makes doing a shop totally inaccessible for people."

Several other Wrexham shoppers agreed that their recent experience had been similar, and expressed disappointment in a "lack of produce and staff."

One individual said: "It's disgusting. I had to put a big shop through self service with a toddler in tow!"

Similarly, another shopper added: "The whole trip was an inconvenience. I was also told to use bin bags earlier this week!! How ridiculous."

A spokesperson for Asda has confirmed the carrier bag shortage, as they was waiting for a delivery to arrive.

The spokesperson added: "The store has since received this delivery and the carrier bags have been fully replenished.

"Unfortunately due to staff absence there were bigger queues than usual at our Wrexham store last week and we apologise for any inconvenience these delays may have caused.

"We're now operating as usual and have a number of options available depending on how customers prefer to shop with us, including manned tills, self-service and Scan & Go."
