A DEDICATED couple from Wrexham are launching a shop in the city centre after their business has excelled online.

The unique surf-inspired store will be opening in Chapter Court, St, on Monday, August 5.

Owned by Paul and SJ Roberts, Ride the Wave officially launched in September 2022, despite having no intention to start a business of their own.

SJ's passion for knits was noticed by the North Wales coastal community and so she received requests to custom-make items of clothing and accessories in her unique style.

After a little thought, SJ began selling items at the Artisan Markets across the region which proved to be incredibly popular.

Paul said: "Our hearts lie mostly with the ocean. We surf, kayak and SUP whenever possible and felt we could offer so much more than smaller items such as beanies.

"We finally branched out and started designing hoodies, t-shirts and towel changing robes - all inspired by our love of the ocean and water-sports.

"SJ has always had a creative side and her handmade funky jewellery and hair accessories are always a big hit with customers. We are hoping to expand our line of products, especially now we have a physical presence within our home town.

"Some might think it strange that we are so ocean based but set up in Wrexham, but this is our hometown and we feel there has been a big uptake in the likes of kayaking, SUP users and wild swimmers that would love our products."

The pair have also said they will pay the occasional homage to their hometown with the occasional Wrexham-themed items too.

The store will occupy Unit 12 in Chapter Court, which is expected to open in Spring 2025. The first instalment of the Court has already been developed, with new business Rough Hands Tap opening up there earlier this year.

There's plenty of space and units available for businesses, with other local traders using it as a base during the monthly market events. It will offer regular live entertainment with social seating along with a variety of independent street food and drink establishments.”
