A DRINK-driver was caught after police blocked him in at a petrol station, a court heard.

Craig Jenkins, of Ffordd Bryn Estyn in Mold, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 43-year-old admitted one offence of drink-driving.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court that on the evening of July 5 this year, police were called to a domestic incident involving the defendant.

Officers were then informed by his partner that he'd left home.

They found him a short time later at Applegreen Service Station in Mold, in an Audi.

As it was believed he was under the influence of intoxicants, police blocked the forecourt and confronted him.

The defendant got out and provided a positive roadside breath test.

When in custody, he gave an evidential reading of 44 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the limit being 35.

Mike Pugh, defending, told the court: "He has pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and is a person of previous good character.

"There had been an argument between himself and his partner, so he left the home to avoid any escalation.

"He was fully compliant at the forecourt and made full admissions."

District Judge Gwyn Jones handed down a £700 fine and ordered the defendant to pay £85 costs, as well as a £280  victim surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 12 months.
