A YOUNG Flintshire dancer has struck gold at a global competition.

This year's Dance World Cup saw more than 120,000 competitors from 66 countries competing at their country qualifiers and at the finals in Prague in the Czech Republic.

One of the dancers competing was 13-year-old Faye Parsons, from Mold.

The Alun School student was representing the Connah's Quay-based Coral Leigh Dance Academy and Team Wales.

Faye, who started dancing at 18-months-old with a 30-minute ballet lesson, walked away with a gold medal in the children's solo lyrical category.

Mum Emma Parsons, who went to Prague with her daughter, said: "We couldn't be more proud. It was absolutely emotional, I was sobbing with joy.

"It was amazing, She had a Wales flag around her shoulders, and everyone cheered for her, even people from other countries.

"She would do anything for dance."

Of her win, a still shocked Faye simply said: "I didn't believe it!"

As well as competitions, the talented youngster trains six days a week. This weekend (July 21-22) she will compete in the Lancashire Summer Dance Festival.

She has also won a part scholarship for the Joffrey Ballet School in New York and Texas, with a three-day intensive session with them in Birmingham.

And as part of her prize for her win at the Dance World Cup, Faye has a golden ticket to go to Barcelona for a two-day course with a top lyrical teacher.

After dancing, Faye would like to pursue studies and a career as a vet.
