Tripadvisor: The best walking routes for a summer stroll

There's nothing more refreshing than discovering a beautiful nature spot for a walk, perhaps with your furry companion, so we decided to check Tripadvisor's most highly rated scenic nature parks across Flintshire and Wrexham.

Flintshire

Nercwys Forest 

If you were to venture off the beaten paths, you would be treated to some lovely hidden paths leading into the older parts of the woods. One visitor said: "A wonderful place to explore with children and walk dogs. Lots of interesting trails, history, magical trees and secret places." 5/5 stars.

Aberduna Nature Reserve 

Situated in Gwernymynydd, this is the most wonderful nature spot to take in the stunning views and explore the woodland. The footpath also passes through the reserve but can be steep occasionally. 4/5 stars.

Loggerheads Country Park

Situated on Ruthin Road, Loggerhead's is the place to bring your favourite picnic blanket and head to the lawn in front of the visitor's centre. The walk itself and surrounding area is lovely for a family afternoon out, especially with a crucial stop at the cafe before heading home. 4.5 stars from 452 reviews.

Wepre Park

The waterfall is a great start at Wepre Park for a beautiful walk with plenty of opportunities to take great pictures. Ewloe Castle truly is the highlight of the area, in addition to the waterfalls and ruins.

Coed Y Felin Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve

This spot is wheelchair friendly and is described as the perfect romantic stroll filled with seasonal flowers. Based in Hendre, this walk does include steeper paths which can be avoided as the lower path follows the old Mold-Denbigh railway line taking you to the picnic tables. Dogs must be kept on a lead. 4/5 stars.

The path itself remains flat so visitors can complete the walk at an enjoyable pace while taking in the interesting history boards along the way. 4.5 stars from 315 reviews.

Wrexham

Maes-Y-Pant / Marford Quarry

This gorgeous walk is the perfect place to take the dogs on a weekend. The old quarry has plenty of paths and wooded areas to get lost in and enjoy some views and wildlife.

Alyn Waters Country Park

A  wonderful park and the largest situated in Wrexham that is a Green Flag Award accredited site. There are two main entrances, one in Llay and one in Gresford, with access to the river, woodland, fields and a fully accessible walking path. 4.5/5 stars from 241 reviews.

There's a small car park at the entrance and a steep drop that can be avoided if it's too muddy, but this place really is a hidden gem to those who have made it their regular spot. 4.5 stars.

Nant Mill Country Park

There are some stunning views and waterfalls not to be missed at Nant Mill. The walk features wood carvings and little gardens, not to mention the birdsong and trickle of the stream as you go through.

Acton Park

Described as one of Wrexham's most underrated spots of nature. Acton Park is an attractive spot to sit and have your lunch on a picnic table, and is also a place for community activities with treasure hunts occasionally taking place. 4.5/5 stars.

Erddig Country Park

'Well worth a visit' according to its reviews. A charming house and gardens to visit on a beautiful summer day. You can join a tour or wander at your own pace. Whatever you decide, you certainly won't be disappointed by this award-winning gem. 4.5/5 stars.
