CONCERNS have been raised over damage done at a children's playground in Wrexham.

An anonymous resident contacted the Leader this week to inform us of the incident at the Bellevue Park playground.

They say that a slide at the playground was jumped on by a group of 'older youths' and has cracked as a result.

That has left the slide having to be cordoned off, and the children who use it disappointed in the process.

The resident told us: "On speaking to the park keeper a group of older youths were in the park, jumping on the plastic children's slide with intent on causing damage.

"The slide is now cracked causing it to be deemed unsafe for young children to use. I was told that this slide cost a lot of money and the damage caused has run into several thousand pounds."

The resident added: "Bellevue Park is a very well used park by all ages. It is one of the most well kept parks in the area and that is down to the parks team.

"The damage caused has caused a lot of young children to miss out on fun with family and friends. My grandson was very upset that he could not use the slide.

"I spoke to a mother at the park too who was so disappointed that the slide had not yet been repaired and that her daughter could could not play on it.

"The Bellevue Park maintenance team themselves are brilliant and the park is enjoyed by everyone. But, this is just senseless and unnecessary damage."

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environment at Wrexham Council, said: “We are aware of this incident, access to the slide has been cordoned off to ensure no one can access the damaged piece of equipment, and we are working with the community on the matter.”
