North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Andy Dunbobbin, has released the final list of 26 organisations set to benefit from his Summer Sports Fund.

These clubs and teams span the six counties of North Wales and cover a range of sporting activities, with a focus on developing and empowering children and young people while curbing anti-social behaviour.

The fund was launched in June, urging local sports clubs and youth organisations to apply.

The Commissioner allocated £25,000 to support the summer projects.

Anti-social behaviour often sees an uptick during the summer, and this initiative is designed to tackle that by engaging young people positively - to instil teamwork, promote exercise, and foster a wholesome and welcoming ambiance.

The Summer Sports Fund has a variety of projects earmarked.

In Anglesey, there is Cymuned CELS lining up Summer Beach Sessions and Rhosneigr Sports Club prepping for a Summer Camp.

Also in Anglesey is Valley Community Group with their Community Summer Fun.

Conwy is set for a Summer Rugby Camp by Clwb Rygbi Nant Conwy.

Other clubs that have benefited include Mochdre U7 Football Team and 1Compass, Old Colwyn - Little 1s, Big 1s.

The last project to be chosen is the Wales and West Housing Association Pop-up Play project.

Mr Dunbobbin said: "I am delighted to have awarded funding to clubs and groups right across our region.

"I was really pleased by the response to my Summer Sports Fund and impressed by the dedication and commitment these clubs have for sport and the community involvement they all showed."

He also said: "As PCC for North Wales, my focus is on supporting our communities and providing opportunities for young people, while also helping to reduce the potential for ASB.

"Last year I launched a Summer Soccer Fund focussed on football, which saw enormous success and, this year, I was keen to extend the scheme to a wider variety of sports to make it as inclusive as possible for young people.

"This year’s Summer Sports Fund is an excellent way to reduce the potential for anti-social behaviour by giving clubs and organisations the platform to host worthwhile activities for young people, in turn fostering a safe and accepting environment for all.

“With the holidays starting and the Paris Olympics just around the corner, I’m looking forward to seeing these exciting Summer Sports Fund activities underway over the summer and to seeing the fun and joy they bring to young people from across North Wales."
