A CONCERNED person has taken matters into their own hands as parking outside a Flintshire school becomes a growing safety concern.
Like schools across the county, the parking outside Ysgol Glan Aber, situated on Y Bwt Sir y Flint in Bagillt, has become an unsettling situation for many due to cars parking on double yellow lines and creating blind spots.
Along the road, a sign has mysteriously appeared reading 'Caution accident waiting to happen', placed anonymously on a lamppost opposite the school's entrance.
An anxious parent shared his thoughts with the Leader. Wanting to remain anonymous, he said: "I think the sign has been put there because at pick up and drop off times, people insist on parking on double yellow lines right outside the entrance.
"It's causing a bottle neck in the traffic as cars are confined to one single lane. The locals have proposed barriers and speed ramps but with the lack of funding in the council I can't see this happening.
"There is a zebra crossing further down the road but the lolly pop lady was removed months ago, I think due to lack of [funds]. But generally, people cross the road near the entrance by the parked cars and it's dangerous."
Katie Wilby, Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation said: “Parking within the vicinity of schools is a longstanding problem given that many schools are located in densely populated and built-up areas which were constructed at a time when vehicle usage was significantly lower.

"This is exacerbated by many parents/carers taking their children to school by car rather than using more sustainable means of travel.
“There is a system of double yellow line restrictions and clearways outside Ysgol Glan Aber, which is enforced by the council, however, it is the responsibility of motorists to drive and park safely in accordance with the Highway Code.”
Ysgol Glan Aber has been approached for comment on the situation.
