A MAN stole razors from a supermarket in order to sell them to fund his drug habit, a court heard.

Michael Taylor, of Pont Wen in Caia Park, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday for sentence.

The 35-year-old had previously admitted one offence of shoplifting and one of failing to provide a sample for a class A drug test.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court that at around 2pm on May 17, Taylor entered Sainsbury's at Plas Coch in Wrexham.

He de-tagged some razors, worth £111 altogether, and left without paying for them.

Mr Espie said the other offence spoke for itself.

A probation officer told the court: "Historically he has had issues with drugs and at the time, he'd lapsed into using cocaine.

"Mr Taylor said he was under the influence of cocaine when he went to Sainsbury's.

"He said he didn't intend to go to the store to steal the items - but when challenged he explained his intention was to sell them to fund his habit.

"There is a clear pattern of offending linked to substance misuse.

The Leader:

"He is a high risk of reoffending."

Bethan Jones, defending, did not add to the Probation Service submissions.

The court handed down a 12 month community order with a three month drug rehabilitation requirement and 10 days of rehabilitation activity.

Taylor must pay £111 in compensation.
