A TOWN Council in Flintshire is on the lookout for a new councillor as a former Mayor steps down.

Holywell Town Council is advertising the role of councillor for the Holywell West Ward.

That was previously the role held by former Mayor Cllr Lynda Carter, who the town council say resigned on Sunday, June 30.

As such, Rule 5 (2) of the Local Elections (Parish and Communities, England and Wales) 2006 now applies.

The rule allows ten electors for the ward in which the vacancy has arisen to request the Returning Officer to hold an election to fill the vacancy.

That request must be made within fourteen days, a period which ends on Monday, August 5.

If no request is made, then Holywell Town Council must co-opt a person to fill the vacancy.

Anyone interested should contact the town council on 01352 702329.

Cllr Carter told the Leader that "It was an honour and privilege to be Mayor of Holywell twice."

She declined the invitation to comment on why she is stepping down.
