TWO BRAVE individuals from Flintshire are taken on the Welsh 3000 Challenge to raise funds for the Mold Mayoral fundraising appeal.

Lauren Jakeman and her fiancé Ste Broster will be undertaking the Welsh 3000’s on July 27 and 28 in aid of Lauren’s Grandad Mayor of Mold Councillor Brian Lloyd’s fundraising appeal.

The Welsh 3000’s is one of the toughest mountain challenges in the UK.

To complete the challenge, participants are required to have been at the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000 ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours - without using any form of transport.

Lauren said: "Taking on the Welsh 3000s is my way of honoring my grandad's commitment as the mayor of Mold, by raising funds for the charities he's chosen this year and celebrating his dedication to our community."

The length of the challenge is about 24 miles, but the walks to the start point and down from the finish point can take it to over 30 miles in total making it extremely tough. It’s a big step up from something like the well-known Three Peaks Challenge, suitable only for very fit and experienced mountain walkers.

Mayor of Mold Councillor Brian Lloyd said: “I am extremely proud of my Granddaughter Lauren and Ste for taking on this challenge to help raise money for my Mayoral appeal.

"They are both very fit and experienced mountain walkers, this is going to be tough for them but I have no doubt that they will complete it, they are both extremely determined and have been training for sometime.
