A STRETCH of the A5 near Chirk was closed following a crash this afternoon (Sunday, July 14).
Traffic monitoring serivce Inrix is reporting that the incident happened at Weston Rhyn - between Chirk and Gobowen.
It reportedly sparked heavy traffic in both directions.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson has said: "We are currently on scene of a road traffic accident on the A5 between Gobowen and Wrexham. Please seek alternative routes, avoiding this area. Updates to follow further."
They added that the road was closed.
A witness took to social media to state: "Bad accident again. Traffic terrible in Weston Rhyn, so definitely avoid this area."
Shortly after 5.30pm, West Mercia Police confirmed that the road has reopened in both directions.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the incident at 3.36pm - with one crew from Oswestry sent to the scene.
A spokesperson said: "Road traffic collision involving two saloon vehicles, no persons trapped. Both vehicles made electrically safe and casualties left in care of ambulance service."
