Hayfever sufferers have been warned to expect a tough weekend, with high pollen counts forecast.

The Met Office is predicting high pollen counts across Wrexham and Flintshire over the weekend, with mixed weather on the way.

Airborne allergens expert and creator of HayMax allergen barrier balms, Max Wiseberg said: “Whatever medicines or precautions you take to stop or ease your symptoms – keep taking them!

“High pollen counts are forecast for Wales this Saturday and Sunday, so be prepared and avoid the hay fever misery that’s on its way.

“So don’t put away your medicines just yet, and keep taking precautions to minimise the amount of pollen getting into your eyes and up your nose.

“Keeping pollen out of your home reduces the amount of pollen you breathe in. Keep doors and windows closed as much as possible. Remove shoes at the door to prevent pollen being brought indoors. Vacuum and damp dust regularly – damp dusting helps prevent pollen being dispersed back into the air. And if you have a pet keep it well groomed and shampoo regularly to remove pollen from its coat.

“Antihistamines counteract the effects of too many histamines – the body’s reaction to the pollen. The most common are acrivastine, cetirizine, chlorphenamine, desloratadine, fexofenadine and loratadine. So if one doesn’t work, try another – just check the active ingredient on the pack. Always check the guidance if driving or operating machinery.

“It is important to remember these simple rules when creating your own Hay Fever First Aid Kit. Never take 2 antihistamines together, never take 2 steroid nasal sprays together, and consult your pharmacist or doctor if you are already taking any other medication. It is also advisable to consult a pharmacist or GP if you are pregnant or breast-feeding and if you are considering combining different products for a child.”
