A WREXHAM Cadet who 'always has a massive smile on her face' is the latest recipient of a prize honouring the community's greatest heroes.

The F Jones Initiative award scheme recognises those who contribute most to the Wrexham community and were originally established by Wrexham Lager and F Jones Food Service.

And the latest to be honoured with the award is Cora Bishop, who is an Army Cadet at Hightown Barracks.

The 12-year-old, who has Downs Syndrome, has been nominated for 'always having a massive smile on her face' and also for the 'way she makes amazing friends'.

The F Jones Initiative team said: "Cora’s confidence and self-esteem has grown, and she has challenged herself to take on responsibilities and step outside her comfort zone. She has gained a sense of self-sufficiency that transcends her disability.

"This newfound independence has not only empowered her but has also provided her with essential life skills, that will serve her well in the future."

They added: "Her presence has been a benefit to the other cadets, as many would not have had the chance to interact and support someone with Downs Syndrome previously.

"Cora has found a sense of purpose and belonging being a cadet, it has empowered her to overcome challenges, build self confidence and embrace her unique abilities.

"Although she will always have challenges, Cora is no longer defined by her disability but her limitless potential. Well done Cora, keep smiling!"

"This experience has not only enriched her life, but has opened doors to personal growth, empowerment, and a sense of belonging that I believe every child deserves."
