A NEW information board has installed providing insight into the fascinating history of a Wrexham park.

Courtesy of Rhosddu Community Council, Rhosddu Park now has a colourful new sign in place.

It aims to give guests of the park a glimpse of its interesting past.

Some might be surprised to learn that the now world-famous Wrexham AFC once played their home games at the park during the 1881-2 and 1882-3 seasons.

That came following after an issue with rent at the Reds' Racecourse home ground.

A semi-final of the FAW Cup was also played at Rhosddu Park as far back as 1881 - between Newtown White Stars and Llanidloes, with the former winning 2-0.

The park itself is named after William Jones, a founder of the Island Green brewery, whose brother John donated the land to Wrexham Corporation in his memory.

Rhosddu Councillor Marc Jones shared the above picture of the new board to the Rhosddu News and Views Facebook group.

He said: "A new information board outlining the history of Rhosddu Park, one of our few green spaces, has been put up by Rhosddu Community Council."
