A SPECIAL fundraising challenge has been completed in memory of Flintshire super-star mum.

Sisters-in-law Fiona Evans and Lee-Anne McCarthy have completed the Peak District 100km Ultra Challenge in memory of Catherine 'Cath' Anne Evans who sadly passed at the age of 65 in October 2023.

Despite the terrain and mixed weather conditions, the dedicated pair walked 100km continually over July 6 and 7, taking them just under 33-hours to complete.

Fiona and Lee-Anne began training earlier this year with very little prior experience before jumping into the deep-end with the fundraiser.

An impressive total of £2,400 has been raised so far for the ICU at the countess of Chester Hospital where Cath spent her final days. See the fundraising page here.

Lee-Anne said: "Cath was an amazing person who always had time for everyone and we miss her greatly. We wanted to do something in her memory to raise money in her name.

"Cath was cared for by the Countess of Chester Hospital ICU department, who were outstanding.

"However, the NHS always needs extra help to ensure their nurses get that additional training, or departments get the equipment they need."

On social media, Fiona added: "That was one of the best and worst things I've ever done.

"This one was for you Catherine Anne Evans, I know you had something to do with us having brilliant weather and the cheeky little Robin that kept appearing."

Cath had worked in her local Morrisons store in Connah's Quay, Flintshire, since it opened over 13-years-ago.

She was hugely loved by all who knew her. And in her personal life, she was blessed with five boys - Jack, Malcolm, Lee, Kieron and Scott, and was happily married to Richie.

Previously speaking to the Leader, son Jack said: "It’s hard to put into words how incredible Cath was. Whether it was as a wife, mum, sister or friend, we were all so blessed to have Cath as a ray of sunshine in our lives.

"It's clear our Cath had an impact on so many lives, even if she didn’t even realise it at time. The family couldn’t be prouder of our Angel and she will never be forgotten."

The money raised will go onto make a huge difference to those at Chester Hospital.
