FOUR friends have come together to set up a non-profit singing group open to all community members in Chirk, Wrexham.
Due to a decline in social groups post Covid, Lisa Langford was determined to form a much-needed group to provide people with a safe and supportive environment.
Alongside her fellow committee members Wendy Dowley (chair), Judith Dillon (vice-chair) and Jule Nolan (secretary), the four women are delighted to introduce 'Let's Sing Bee Happy Chirk Community Singing Group.'
A special launch was held on Tuesday, July 2 attended by the Mayor of Wrexham and Mayor of Oswestry.
Lisa described the evening as a "resounding success" as both Mayors cut the ribbon, officially opening the new community group.
Lisa continued: "Since covid, social groups have very much declined and we felt that we a needed a group like this to provide people with a supportive environment to come along and enjoy singing.
"We all strongly feel that singing is a great way to improve mood and spirit, and with mental health issues being very prevalent in todays society we wanted to offer people the opportunity and come and join us as a way to lift the mood, and provide, for some, very much needed social interaction.
"We have had two sessions so far which have been very well attended and we have had so much positive feedback from those attending, we have even had people attend who were just visiting the local area, and they really enjoyed the evening."
As a non-profit organisation, the Chirk Community Singing Group will be raising money for Advanced Brighter Future, a Chirk-based charity striving to support mental wellbeing.
They will also be supporting the Alzheimer's Society which many group members sadly have been affected by.

The founders hope the group will become an exciting social gathering and a way to make new friends while singing (whether you can hold a tune or not!).
One member said the group "gives people a sense of purpose and something to focus on as well as a friendly chat and cuppa in the break."
Sessions will run every Tuesday 7-9pm at Chirk Town Hall and cost £2.50. All information will be shared on the Let's Sing Bee Happy Chirk Community Singing Group Facebook page.
