A TOWN'S public toilets could be at risk after the latest in a series of "mindless" vandalism incidents.
Andy White, Buckley town events manager, told the Leader that town councillors are to have a special meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the future of the toilets.
It comes after the facilities have been closed yet again due to the latest incident of vandalism.
Mr White said: "It's quite serious now, we can't just keep repairing them.
"They are well used and are a necessity in the town - but unfortunately we have a minority of people who spoil it for everyone else.
"The toilets are closed at the moment because the commercial fittings inside are being broken.
"And these aren't plastic fittings; they're stainless steel and they're being ripped off the walls.
"These facilities are owned and operated by Buckley Town Council.
"This damage comes at a cost of hundreds of pounds each time and this is public money.
"It started in the ladies' toilet, but now it's going on in the gents' as well."
mindless" and urged those responsible to think about the impact they are having on others.
Mr White branded the behaviour ""There are genuine, good people who use these facilities," he continued.
"I'd ask people to think of others; it could be a member of their own family who needs to use the toilets - a granny, a mother, a father - and now they can't because of this mindless act.
"It's just senseless. There's no gain whatsoever from ripping these things off the wall.
"I'm absolutely disappointed and saddened by the whole situation.
"Various traders in the town have stepped up and aid anyone needing the toilet may use theirs, but it's not ideal."
Mr White added the upcoming meeting, a final date for which has yet to be announced, will present town councillors with a tough choice.
"It's going to be a big decision," he said.
"There are various options - do we charge people to use the toilets?
"I'm not saying that would stop the vandals, but it might slow the issue down.
"Do we close the toilets permanently, or another idea?
"It's a difficult one."
