More than 500,000 people visit the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, near Wrexham, every year.

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal - which is 18 kilometres in length and located in Trevor near Llangollen - is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is described as a "feat of civil engineering".

The aqueduct itself, which carries the Llangollen canal over the River Dee, was created by celebrated civil engineer Thomas Telford and completed in the early years of the 19th century.

Whether your walking across the aqueduct on foot, in a canoe or travelling along on a narrowboat - the structure itself and the surroundings are really something to behold.

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is a much-loved tourist attraction boasting a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Tripadvisor from 1,761 reviews.

One visitor, describing their experience as "super fun", said: "It was really fun canoeing along the river.

"Going across the aqueduct was a 1 in a lifetime treat it was amazing at the end of aqueduct there is a shop that sells duck food so on our way back we had loads of fun feeding the ducks.

"Wish I had the time to do this again."

But not everyone seems to agree with the high praise for the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

"Just a wet bridge" - tourist unimpressed by Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

Just six people, out of the 1,761 reviews on Tripadvisor, described their experience of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct as "terrible", giving it a one out of five rating.

One visitor described it as a "wet bridge" and said the "optimum" amount of time you need to spend viewing the aqueduct was five minutes.

The review reads: "just a wet bridge, could have been a bit less wet. Its just a bridge with water and its wet.

"you could fall into the wet if you tried hard enough. I'm not joking, it genuinely is a bridge (going over a river) with a canal along it, doesn't that just defeat the purpose of having it above water??

A second visitor in another bizarre review gave the aqueduct a "terrible" rating because it had "a lot of stones".

The reviewer said: "It's a lot of stones, very high up. I wonder how they for them all up three. Maybe they used helicopters."
