Members of the business community have worked together to help develop the skills of school pupils in the area.

Partnering with Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, the Wrexham Leadership Alliance participated in a Dragons’ Lair event at Ysgol Bryn Alyn on June 26.

As part of this initiative, Year 10 pupils have the opportunity to create, market, and present a small business idea to experienced leaders.

The ideas presented by the students will be put into practice at the upcoming school's summer fair, with all profits going directly to Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children's hospices.

Simultaneously, this project also contributes to the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification studied by pupils.

The event attracted leaders from companies in the area including Net World Sports, Platts Agriculture, Marlin Industries, The Very Group, and The Uncommon Practice.

The aim of the occasion is to boost the confidence in young people, offer financial insight and introduce diverse career opportunities.

Lisa Bellis, people partner at The Very Group, said: "This is my first Dragons’ Lair and it is so nice to do something different and give something back to the students.

"I hope we can help them understand the range of pathways available to them and inspire them to help fill the skills gap locally.

"The Wrexham Leadership Alliance was formed to drive change in the area by supporting young people with training.

"This is highlighted by things such as the JCB Skills Academy."

Throughout the day, student groups showcased their business ideas, such as fresh smoothies, handmade bead jewellery, strawberry and chocolate pots, and even a 'soak the teacher' game, all raising excitement for the end of term.

Cat Dowdeswell from Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, who facilitates the event, said: "We are delighted to have had the Leadership Alliance on board for this Dragons’ Lair.

"Their combined experience and vision will do wonders for the pupils and help them work towards a valuable qualification.

"Our Dragons’ Lair events over the years have also raised over £130,000 for our hospices which serve over 750 local children and families.

"Huge congratulations go to all the Ysgol Bryn Alyn pupils who took part.

"They were brilliant and gave us some really inspiring pitches."
