WREXHAM AFC has announced a pre-season tour of the USA once more this summer - but before all that glitz and glamour, they will be heading to Hanley.

Where's that, you may ask? Well, it's a town that is located in the Stoke-on-Trent area.

Last week, Hanley Town FC confirmed that Wrexham would be paying them a visit, first team in tow, ahead of another strip stateside.

That match takes place at the Northern Premier League Division One West side's The Afford Rent A Car Stadium home ground on Saturday, July 13 with a 1pm kick-off.

And with tickets reportedly selling out fast, it seems that plenty of Reds fans will be making that trip over the border.

With that in mind, the Leader has put together a quick guide for what you need to know about Hanley Town FC and the town itself.

The modern club was established in 1966 and has enjoyed some successful spells in recent times, winning the Midland Football League Premier Division in 2021–22.

Hanley Town FC is located just a short trip away from Port Vale FC, who Wrexham will leapfrog into League One this season, with Vale being relegated to League Two last season.

Much like Wrexham, the town of Hanley also has a rich history of coal mining.

Hanley has several cultural facilities to enjoy too such as the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery (featuring a large ceramics collection, and restored Spitfire!).

The town also boasts a large shopping centre and two splendidly refurbished theatres, The Regent, along with one of the country's best concert venues, the Victoria Hall.

Some famous people to have been born in the town include Edward Smith - the Merchant Navy officer who was captain of the RMS Titanic and sadly went down with the ship.

Another notable name is Thomas Twyford, who invented the single piece, ceramic flush toilet!

Footballing wise, Hanley produced one of the game's best ever players in the form of legendary player Sir Stanley Matthews, who was a star of the game in the early 1900's.
