WORK is set to start on the regeneration of the High Street in Wrexham.

Wrexham Council say they are pleased to announce that works are to start implementing the "exciting" plans for the regeneration of the High Street and immediate surroundings.

The improvements include:

The pedestrianisation of York Street / High Street / Town Hill and Abbot Street

Creation of green spaces and tree planting

Installation of new paving blocks, granite kerbing and street furniture

Following the results of the recent consultation exercise, the scheme has been extended to include Town Hill and Abbot Street.

Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd have been appointed by to deliver the environmental improvements to Wrexham City Centre. The first Phase of the works will be starting this week on Yorke St. and Town Hill on Monday, 1 July.

The Contractors working hours will be between 7:30am and 6pm Monday to Friday and should weekend working be necessary, 9am until 1pm on Saturdays.  There are currently no plans to work weekends and the Contractor will not be working during the August Bank Holiday.

The works will be completed by October 25, 2024.

These are major works but the council say disruption will be minimised as much as possible, with the main route remaining open to traffic and pedestrian access retained in all streets.

Given the limited width of Town Hill and Abbots Street, these will be closed to vehicular traffic for certain periods whilst they are resurfaced. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Measures will be in place to minimise disruption to businesses during this period including providing porters by the Contractor to support businesses with deliveries and Alun Griffiths Public Liaison Officer will pop by to discuss these details.
