WREXHAM Council has issued an update on grassing cutting in the area after members were "inundated with complaints".

Last week, councillors expressed their anger over the "embarrassing" length of grass in the county borough.

It follows budget cuts, industrial action and climate change being blamed for overgrown verges in the area.

The issue led to a crisis meeting being held between senior politicians and chief officers to try and resolve the situation. At the council's homes and environment scrutiny committee last Wednesday (June 19, 2024), members spoke about how daily complaints were being made by residents about untidy areas and grass verges left to grow near roads.

Today (Monday, June 24), Wrexham Council's environmental team issued an update on areas which have had grass cut, and which areas will be visited this week.

A notice issued to councillors states: "Last week in our central area we were cutting in Caia Park, Whitegate, Kingsmills and Hightown areas. In the north area we started in Coedpoeth area as well as safety cuts to improve sight lines ect. We were also active in Alyn Waters on both Gwersyllt and Llay sites.

"In the south area we were cutting in Johnstown, Pentre Bychan and Rhostyllen areas."
