CINEWORLD at Broughton is set to host a nostalgic film event, celebrating the centre’s 25th anniversary with a showcase of 1999's most memorable movies.

A tribute to the year Broughton opened its doors, films buffs and fans of the 90s can take a trip down memory lane for a limited time only, with cult classics such as A Bug’s Life, The Mummy, and The Matrix offering a blend of animation, adventure, and science fiction.

The showings will start from just £5.00 each, and run from the end of June through the month of July, giving movie enthusiasts and those who hold the 90s dear to their hearts a unique opportunity to come together and enjoy a nostalgic trip back in time.

Alan Pruden-Barker, centre manager at Broughton, said: “A big day out with a visit to the cinema is a birthday tradition for many of us – young and old – and there’s nothing like a throwback film to create a sense of nostalgia. That’s why we’re excited to celebrate our 25th birthday with a selection of blockbuster hits from the year we first opened.

“Since day one, we’ve been all about bringing people together and we can’t wait for visitors to come along and grab a popcorn and enjoy a 90s classic with us.”

Ash Ettrick, cinema manager at Cineworld, said: “We’re incredibly excited to launch our ’99 throwback season, with retro fan favourites for families and film buffs alike.

“We opened our state-of-the-art cinema at Broughton close to ten years ago now and we’re excited to play a small part in marking its 25th year with our local community.”

The initiative is one of a number of ways Broughton is marking its silver anniversary after it hosted a birthday bash last week, complete with a whole host of entertainment, including live music and giveaways.

An exclusive ice cream flavour – strawberry jelly – designed by a lucky local resident, four-year-old Isla Hughes, was also served up at the event, with hundreds of cones given away to visitors for free on the day in collaboration with local supplier, Deeside Creameries.
