A GUITAR auctioned off to raise money for a project preserving a vital piece of Wrexham's history has been sold for £1,000.

Since the takeover of the club by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in early 2021, the club has become one of the most popular in the world.

So, there will no doubt have been many people who would have loved to have been able to add a unique Wrexham-style guitar to their Reds collection.

Last week, the Leader reported that the Vintage Custom ProShop electric guitar was set to go under the hammer.

Wrexham AFC instructed Wingetts Auction House, based in the city, to auction the item off to raise money for the Wrexham Miners Project.

The Miners Rescue Station was purpose built, as required by the Coal Mines Act 1911, and was officially opened in November 1913 as a training centre for mine rescue teams.

The Wrexham Miners Project is now working to preserve the building in memory of the brave people who trained here and to provide a cultural hub for the local community.

The guitar was created to celebrate Wrexham AFC's latest promotion up to EFL League One.

It features the Wrexham AFC club badge and even a tribute to co-chairman Reynolds thanks to a 'Deadpool' graphic.

The custom electric guitar was auctioned by Wingett’s on Tuesday, June 18, and raised £1,000.

All money raised will support the Wrexham Miners Project's work in helping to preserve Wrexham’s mining heritage while providing a community building for use by people of all ages and disabilities.

A spokesperson for the project said: "Thank you to the purchaser and Wingetts Auction Rooms Wrexham for selling the guitar and also thank you to Wrexham AFC for donating the guitar."
