SEASON three of Welcome to Wrexham came to a close on Disney+ last week (June 14) and here's five things we learnt from episode eight.

The award-winning documentary covering the highs and lows of Wrexham AFC under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney returned to screens in May.

Season three had only eight episodes, compared to the 18 in the first series or 15 in season two.

The show, which is up for a number of TV Critics Awards, has already been renewed for a fourth season. The release date has yet to be confirmed.

The eighth and final episode of season three of the hit docu-series, labelled 'Down to the Wire' was released last week and here's five things we learnt:

1. Turn in fortunes - A large part of the Welcome to Wrexham story has been based on the community figures in the town.

At the start of episode eight you hear from the likes of Wrexham women's midfielder Lili Jones, lead singer of the Declan Swans, Michael Hett and Wrexham superfan Millie Tipping on how they've overcome personal struggles alongside the club's success.

2. 100th and 1st - As Phil Parkinson's side head to Gillingham in a must win game, the Reds get the job done through a likely and very unlikely source.

Superstar Paul Mullin bags his 100th goal for the club, before 21-year-old Max Cleworth pops up with five minutes to go to score his first league goal for the club and the all important winner.

3.  Rob and Ryan's regret - Ahead of the Forest Green Rovers game, Ryan and Rob can be seen discussing whether to make the trip to Wrexham in case the Reds got promoted.

It was deemed "almost mathematically impossible" by Rob, with the pair deciding to hold out another week. Instead they had to painfully watch from America as the Reds ran out 6-0 winners.

4. Back to back - The moment the Reds secured promotion features heavily in the final episode, as you'd expect.

Fans get to re-live the moment Wrexham made it back to back promotions and returned to League One.

5. Departures - Finally the episode ends on the sad note of departures from the club.

The Reds announced their retained list, with the likes of Luke Young, Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe all departing after the back to back promotions.

Humphrey Ker, Phil Parkinson and others pay tribute to the impact the departing players had at the club.
