A MUCH-LOVED Wrexham band has been booked in to perform at a major event to be held down in London this month.

Over the last two years in particular, Declan Swans have risen to worldwide fame.

The band - made up of Mike Revill, Ben Jones, Mark Jones and Michael Hett - have been performing for over 20 years.

But, it was their appearance on the Welcome to Wrexham documentary that really shot them to new heights and earned them new fans around the world.

Their 'Always Sunny In Wrexham' hit is now played at the Racecourse before every Wrexham match and has become the catchy tune sung by all in the town.

But, it will be Trafalgar Square in London that will be hearing some of the band's hits later this month.

The Swans are booked in to perform at the annual Canada Day celebrations there on Sunday, June 30.

The day marks the national day of the northern American country and will see the streets of London filled with maple leaves, poutine, mounties and more to celebrate the occasion.

Around 30,000 people turned out to 2023's celebrations, meaning that the Wrexham band should be in for quite the crowd.

The Swans were invited to take part in the event by the Terry Fox Foundation team which is the biggest cancer charity in Canada.

Terry Fox, a 22-year-old Canadian athlete, lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, making headlines in the 1980s when he ran over 3,339 miles to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research.

Sadly, he passed away on June 28, 1981, a month shy of his 23rd birthday and less than a year after his fundraising challenge.

The band has done previous fundraising events with the charity, who originally contacted lead singer Michael Hett after hearing about his cancer battle on the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary.

The Terry Fox Foundation hosts annual runs and has raised more than £500 million for cancer research so far.
