THE CHESHIRE and North Wales Police Dogs Unit has paid tribute to one of its much-loved former 'thief catchers' who died suddenly this week.
The team is a collaboration between North Wales Police and Cheshire Constabulary to provide general purpose, firearms support and specialist search dogs.
These furry friends support officers' ranging policing activities – from tackling serious and organised crime to helping bring vulnerable people back to a place of safety.
The unit has paid tribute to one of its Retired Police Dogs (RPD) Fiona who 'fell seriously ill' on Wednesday (June 12).
She had served with the unit for seven years between 2014 and 2021 and has been described as one of its 'best thief catchers'.

A statement from the Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs team described Fiona as 'amazing'.
They wrote: "It's with a heavy heart we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of RPD Fiona, who fell seriously ill yesterday at home with her loving family.
"Fiona was an amazing dog who received recognition more than once during her career with the Alliance between 2014 - 2021, being one of the best 'thief catchers' utilising her phenomenal tracking abilities.
"She will be missed dearly and thoughts are with her family during this sad time.
Run free over the rainbow bridge Fi, your duty is done."
